§ Mr. MORRELLasked the Under-Secretary of State for War if he will make inquiries into the case of Private Richard Hartley, No. 236041, 3rd Troop, 10th Squadron Remounts, A.P.O.L. 5, now serving with His Majesty's Forces in Italy, who has recently been sentenced to sixty days' field punishment No. 1, and in particular if he will ascertain whether this man, who belongs to a very respectable family in Burnley, has hitherto borne an unblemished character; whether the offence for which he was sentenced to this punishment was that of selling cigarettes to an Italian soldier; and whether, if the facts are substantially as stated in this question, he will take some action in the matter?
