HC Deb 02 May 1918 vol 105 c1728W
General McCALMONT

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether German coinage bearing the Kaiser's head or German arms is still the ordinary currency in what was formerly German East Africa; whether he is aware that the failure to either substitute British currency or to superscribe the German coins with British marks has been detrimental to British prestige; and whether he proposes to take any steps in the matter?

Mr. LONG

The answer to the first question is in the affirmative, and to the second and third in the negative.
