§ Mr. BOWERMANasked the Minister of Munitions if he is aware that, in connection with a dispute between the Warehousing and Transport Company, Selby, and their workpeople, a meeting of the workers was held on Sunday, the 10th of March, at which a police-sergeant and constable were present, under the in- 1208W structions of the superintendent; whether this action had the sanction of the Munitions Department; and. if not, whether steps will be taken to prevent a repetition of such action on the part of the police?
§ Mr. KELLAWAYI have no information as to the presence of police at the meeting in question. The question of the attendance of police at a public meeting would not in any case be a matter for the sanction of the Ministry of Munitions, and in this case no such sanction was either asked or given. The point raised at the end of my right hon. Friend's question is one for the Home Office.
§ Mr. BOWERMANasked the Minister of Munitions if he is aware that the Warehousing and Transport Company, Selby, have recently evicted from their cottages five of their employés, one a woman near childbirth, who were unable to obtain other accommodation; whether the action of the firm has received the sanction of the Ministry; and, if not, what steps it is proposed to take to prevent workpeople, some of whom are war-work volunteers, from being turned away from the employers' cottages until other accommodation has been found for them?
§ Mr. KELLAWAYI am giving this matter close consideration, and in the meantime I cannot do more than refer my right hon. Friend to the answer given to the hon. and gallant Member for West Ham South on 18th March.
