HC Deb 21 March 1918 vol 104 c1222W
Sir J. SPEAR

asked the President of the Board of Agriculture if he is aware that some gross cases of adulteration of pig-meal have come to light recently; and will he request agricultural committees of the several county councils to inform the Board of such cases with a view to prosecution?

Mr. PROTHERO

I am not aware of any such cases, but if my hon. Friend will report any particulars to the county council concerned, I have no doubt they will be promptly dealt with. The initiative in such matters rests with the county councils, and the Board's legal functions are confined to giving or refusing consent to prosecutions proposed by local authorities.
