HC Deb 21 March 1918 vol 104 cc1181-2W
Mr. BYRNE

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is aware that the payment of the war bonus awarded by the Conciliation and Arbitration Board for Government Employés as from the 17th December last is being withheld from the temporary clerical staff employed in the National Health Insurance Commission (Ireland), Dublin, while payment is being made to similar classes in other Departments; and whether, inasmuch as the non-payment of the bonus is causing hardship and discontent amongst the staff mentioned, he will issue instructions to-have the bonus paid immediately to the officials concerned?

Sir E. CORNWALL

The award of the Conciliation and Arbitration Board of 17th December last did not apply to temporary staff, but in view of a subsequent Treasury announcement of awards to certain special classes of temporary employés in Revenue Departments the Commissioners have reopened the matter and are now in. correspondence with the Treasury.
