HC Deb 21 March 1918 vol 104 cc1220-1W
Captain WRIGHT

asked the President of the Board of Agriculture whether there is a special dairy section of his Department to collect and distribute information relating to such matters as the quantity and quality of the milk, cheese, and butter supplies; the number, maintenance, and feeding of dairy cows, and the improvement, cost of production, and distribution of these supplies; and, if not, whether he will take steps to establish such a section?

Mr. PROTHERO

The staff of the Department which deals with dairy matters has recently been increased, but there is no special dairy section of the Board. The collection and distribution of information on the industry are provided for by the Board, or. by institutions closely connected with the Board, in the same way as the collection and distribution of information on other branches of agriculture are arranged for, according to the nature of the subject. In addition, I would remind my hon. Friend of the Committee on the Production and Distribution of Milk, presided over by the hon. and gallant Member for Plymouth, which was set up last April on the instruction of the Cabinet by my right hon. Friend the President of the Board, with the concurrence of the Food Controller. This Committee has already issued two valuable Reports (Cd. 8608 and Cd. 8886) on the milk supply.
