HC Deb 04 March 1918 vol 103 c1726W
Mr. BYRNE

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food if he is aware that in parts of Ireland outside Dublin distillers and wholesale whisky dealers are making efforts to dispose of their stocks at high prices to buyers other than their 1916 customers; if he is aware that this attempt to rob licensed traders of their average, based on 1916, supplies is resented, and will bring ruin to many traders if allowed to pass unchecked; and if, when appointing the Whisky Committee, he will see that the small licensed traders of the districts affected shall receive adequate direct representation on the Committee?

Mr. PARKER

The answer to the first two parts of the question is in the affirmative. It has not yet been decided to set up a Whisky Committee, but the Department is in close touch with the trade, and is doing everything possible to help the small licensed traders of the districts affected.
