WASONasked the Secretary for Scotland if his attention has been directed 1733W to the case of Mrs. Firth, Castle Farm, Stromness, a lady paying a rent of £91 a year, supplying milk to a very large number of persons and also to the Bellay Hospital; if he is aware that two of her sons are already serving the Government, and that, if her two boys who are working the farm are taken by the military) she will be forced to abandon the farm as no outside labour is available; and, in view of the fact that a distinct pledge was given that no further inroads on agricultural labour would be made, he proposes to take any action in the matter?
§ Mr. MUNROThe reply to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. The case of David Firth, one of the two sons referred to, is under consideration by the Board of Agriculture upon a question raised by the Director of National Service, Scottish Region. That of the other son will be considered by the Board if and when any proposal is made to call him up for military service.
