§ Mr. GILBERTasked the Minister of Munitions how many motor omnibuses 191W receive any financial help or Grant from his Department for services they provide in the South-Eastern district of London; what routes do these omnibuses serve and are they in competition with any municipal tramway services; and can he state on what basis the Grant or payment is made, if it is an annual sum or is based on the mileage run?
§ Sir W. EVANSFinancial Grants are made in respect of about 200 omnibuses in the South-Eastern district of London. These omnibuses serve seventeen routes, particulars of which I will give the hon. Member should he desire it. On several of the routes trams are also running. The amount of the present Grant is based on the difference between the average earnings per mile of the omnibuses in the South-Eastern area as compared with the earnings of the omnibuses in the remainder of the Metropolis, subject to certain conditions. Negotiations are proceeding with the omnibus company concerning future Grants.
