§ Captain BARNETTasked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether second lieutenants serving overseas have in many cases completed two years' service and more without receiving the promotion to rank and pay of lieutenant which was to have taken effect at the end of eighteen months; and if so, whether he will take steps to expedite such promotion and to date the same back to the completion of eighteen months' service?
§ Mr. MACPHERSONI would refer my hon. and gallant Friend to the answer which I gave on 26th November to my hon. and gallant Friend the Member for Lewisham. Since then a large number of promotions have been made, but delay is caused by difficulties in obtaining the recommendations when officers are serving apart from their units. No officer loses pay or seniority because of delay in gazetting.
