HC Deb 21 February 1918 vol 103 c940W
Sir BERTRAM FALLE

asked the Minister of Munitions if he is aware that John H. Corddell, of Eastfield Road, Portsmouth, was working in Portsmouth at a wage, with bonus, of Is. 3d. per hour, and that, having volunteered to work on munitions, his pay at Huntingdon, where he is now working is, with subsistence allowance, Is. per hour; and if he will see that this man gets the rate he is entitled to — that is, the rate he last received —or the rate in the place he is working, whichever is the greater?

Mr. KELLAWAY

Corddell is receiving the rate to which he is entitled, namely, ll½d. per hour, that being the Portsmouth rate, inclusive of war bonus, for his trade, and higher than the rate current at Huntingdon. In addition, subsistence allowance at the rate of 17s. 6d. a week has been authorised.

Mr. BYRNE

asked the Minister of Labour if he will state the total amount of war bonus or war wages which labourers in Government-controlled establishments are entitled to?

Mr. KELLAWAY

The amount of war bonus to which labourers employed on munitions work are entitled depends on the trade carried on by I lie establishment in which they are employed. The number of different trades carried on by controlled establishments is so large that no general statement on the matter is possible.
