HC Deb 21 February 1918 vol 103 cc933-4W
Sir J. SPEAR

asked the Secretary to the Admiralty if he will extend the provision of Appendix I. of the Admiralty Instruction under which medical officers are allowed 3s. 6d. per diem charge pay when in sea-going ships with complements of over 650 both in peace time as well as in war; and will he consider the advisability of extending to accountant officers similar treatment under like circumstances?

Dr. MACNAMARA

In branches so dissimilar as the medical and accountant branches of the Naval Service, the considerations which govern the issue of allowances to the officers of these branches are necessarily different. The present Regulations as regards charge pay for accountant officers wore drawn up for the period of the War only, and no reason is seen for amending them at present. On conclusion of hostilities, however, they will be reconsidered.
