HC Deb 21 February 1918 vol 103 c953W
Mr. P. A. HARRIS

asked the President of the Hoard of Agriculture how much land has been acquired for the settlement of discharged soldiers on the land; and whether the Government intends to seek further legislative powers to obtain more land for this purpose?

Sir R. WINFREY

Four thousand five hundred and thirteen acres have been acquired, and 1,345 are about to be acquired, under the Small Holdings (Colonies) Act, 1916. In addition, 300 acres have been given under the Sailors and Soldiers (Gifts for Land Settlement) Act, 1917. It is hoped that it will be possible to introduce further legislation on this subject at an early date.
