HC Deb 14 February 1918 vol 103 cc298-9W
Mr. WILKIE

asked the Minister of Munitions whether he is aware that the Lee Arrow Factory, Cork, is fully equipped for the manufacture of munitions but is to be closed down on account of shortage of work; and whether he will consider the advisability of taking over this factory and utilising it in the interests of the country?

Sir W. EVANS

I would refer my hon. Friend to the answers I gave to the hon. Member for Cork City in answer to his questions on this subject on 24th January and 4th February last.

Mr. P. MEEHAN

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland if he is aware that changes involving the dismissal of several employés are being enforced in the National Shell Factory, Dublin; that several men have been dismissed and a number are under notice of dismissal; if he can state whether it is contemplated dismissing more of the staff; and whether it is intended providing other employment for those of the staff dismissed and left unemployed and without means of supporting their dependants in these trying times?

Sir W. EVANS

In the interests of the efficiency of the factory it has been found necessary to make certain changes of staff, but it is hoped that when the reorganisation is complete employment may be found for any efficient members of the staff who may have been placed temporarily out of employment.
