HC Deb 14 February 1918 vol 103 c300W
Captain D. HALL

asked the Home Secretary if, in view of the fact that a war bonus has recently been awarded to the warders of Camp Hill prison, in the Isle of Wight, the Prison Commissioners can see their way to grant a war bonus also to the men employed there in building, most of whom have been so employed for the last eight to ten years and therefore cannot be reasonably classed as casual labourers?

Sir G. CAVE

These workmen are in receipt of the first two war bonuses allowed to Government employeés. The bonus given in December last was given only to permanent employeés, but the case of others such as the labourers in question is now under the consideration of the Treasury. The Prison Commissioners must wait till the decision of the Treasury is announced.
