HC Deb 14 February 1918 vol 103 cc286-7W
Mr. BYRNE

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland if he has received any complaints from Dublin builders or owners of destroyed property in Dublin with reference to the holding up of supplies of timber that are urgently required for buildings in the course of erection in Abbey Street and O'Connell Street; and if he will cause instructions to be issued immediately for the release of timber and other materials required for these buildings?

Mr. WARDLE

My right hon. Friend has asked me to answer this question. I understand that complaints of the nature referred to have been received by the Irish Office, but, so far from timber supplies having been held up, I may say that the matter has been most sympathetically considered. A representative of the Timber Controller was sent to Ireland specially to go into the matter, and in the middle of December last a scheme was placed before the Dublin civic authorities which, upon receipt of their assent, will be proceeded with.
