§ Mr. STEWARTasked the hon. Member for Sheffield (Central Division) whether the Prisoners of War Committee will inquire into the proceedings of the Commission held at Aachen on 11th June, when, notwithstanding the fact that they were sent at the request of the British authorities, the Commission is reported to have sent back three British merchant shipmasters to Holzminden Camp owing to the complaint of the Germans that, as we were not sending over their prisoners sent before the Commission at the request of the German Government, they would no longer continue to send ours?
Mr. HOPEThe Commission at Aachen is a German Commission, and we have, unfortunately, no control over their proceedings. The reason stated to have been given by the German authorities for detaining the three shipmasters has no justification in fact.
