§ Mr. FORSTEROn joining as recruits such soldiers receive regimental pay at 1s. 2d. and engineer pay at 6d. a day. On completing the recruits' course they receive the regimental pay of their rank, 1s. 2d. a day as sapper, 2s. 6d. as corporal, and 3s. 3d. as sergeant, with engineer pay varying from 1s. to 2s. a day according to their qualifications.
