§ Mr. WARDLEAs regards the first part of this question, if the hon. Gentleman will furnish me with particulars of the cases he has in mind in which fares have been increased by 80 to 100 per cent., I will make inquiries into the matter. As regards the second part, I would refer the hon. Gentleman to the letter which my right hon. Friend sent to him on the 19th July explaining that, in existing circumstances, he could hold out no prospect of any reduction of the railway fares at present charged.
