HC Deb 18 April 1918 vol 105 c568W
Mr. C. WASON

asked the Secretary for Scotland whether, in view of the fact that the farm of Howe, Sanday, is in every way suitable for small holdings and that there are applications from persons in the district who urgently require land for growing produce, and n view of the fact that the Board of Agriculture sanctioned the cultivation of 20 areas on the farm of Scatsta, Shetland, he will explain why similar action cannot be, taken on the farm of Howe?

Mr. MUNRO

Action taken by the Board of Agriculture in the case of Scatsta is under the provisions of Section 1 (a) of the Defence of the Realm Regulation 2 m. The Board have had no recommendation from the, district agricultural committee to the effect that the stale of culivation of the farm of Howe warrants the exercise of similar powers in that case, and in all the circumstances they see no sufficient reason for action as suggested by my hon. Friend.
