§ Captain Sir C. BATHURSTasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware the Great Western and Midland Joint Severn and Wye Railway Company have lately given one week's notice to certain old people, named, respectively, Ellaway and Saunders, living at Lydney, in the county of Gloucester, to quit houses belonging to the company, which they have occupied for upwards of thirty years, owing to their sons, who were employés of the company, having been killed in action at the front, and although their parents were themselves formerly in the company's employment; and whether, seeing that the railway is under Government control, he will take steps to prevent such harsh treatment being carried into effect?
Sir A. STANLEYI am making inquiries in regard to the cases referred to, and I will communicate with the hon. and gallant Gentleman so soon as they have been completed.
