§ Mr. TOOTILLasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that during Easter railway companies suspended the issue of workmen's tickets although continuation at work during the holidays was very general throughout the country; whether the companies have power to suspend the issue of workmen's tickets during holiday periods; and whether he will make representations to the companies on the matter?
Sir A. STANLEYIt is not the practice to issue workmen's tickets on statutory public holidays, and some of the railway companies are expressly excepted from such an obligation by their Acts of Parliament. I am, however, communicating with the railway executive committee in the matter.
