TERRELLasked the Minister of Reconstruction whether, as an essential measure of reconstruction, he will at once make the necessary preparations to carry out the recommendations of the Royal Commission on Inland Waterways immediately the War is over; and, if so, what steps he is taking and proposes taking to ensure that as soon as peace is declared he will be in a position to put the work in hand?
§ Dr. ADDISON:I cannot say more than that the future of canals will be considered. The question for the moment is the maintenance of the important canals and their utilisation to the utmost extent possible in the very difficult circumstances now existing, which is being dealt with by the Canal Control Committee appointed by my right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Trade.
