§ Mr. OUTHWAITEasked the President of the Board of Agriculture whether his 413W attention has been called to the fact that many owners of agricultural land are selling large areas at high prices to tenant farmers; and if he will take steps to issue a warning against speculation, in view of the fact that after the War the needs of the State will compel the imposition of heavy taxation upon land?
§ Mr. PROTHERO:No special warning of the kind seems necessary. Farmers who purchase their holdings do not do so as a speculation, but to own their homes and the materials of production on which their livelihood depends. I may suggest that they are in as good a position as the hon. Member to forecast the probable incidence of future taxation.
