HC Deb 12 November 1917 vol 99 c51W
Captain WRIGHT

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether, in view of the hardship of compulsorily retiring officers against their will, he will consider whether officers hitherto engaged in recruiting duties, and now proposed to be transferred to the National Service Department, can be allowed to continue on the military establishment and to wear their uniforms?

Mr. MACPHERSON

These officers have not been retired. They retain their commissions, but wear plain clothes as their duties are purely civil.
