HC Deb 12 November 1917 vol 99 cc55-6W
Mr. KING

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is aware that of the £1,175,000 legal currency in Malta there are £800,000 in gold coin (British) and only £300,000 in Treasury notes; and whether gold will be withdrawn from Malta to strengthen the financial position?

Mr. HEWINS

I have no information as to the present condition of the currency, in Malta, but the matter to which the hon. Member refers is primarily for the consideration of the Treasury.
