HC Deb 12 November 1917 vol 99 c52W
General CROFT

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether the announcement some weeks ago that hospital stoppages were to be discontinued also applies to officers; if so, whether his attention has been called to the fact that officers after being several weeks in hospital are still receiving demands on account of stoppages; and whether he will cause this matter to be inquired into?

Mr. FORSTER

The announcement made deals entirely with the pay of men. The question of officers will not be overlooked.

General CROFT

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether his attention had been called to the fact that officers who have commanded units in the field for six months, with acting rank of major or captain, after being wounded and invalided, have their pay cut down to that of a lieutenant; and whether he will consider the continuance of temporary rank and pay to those who have held higher rank and service for a definite period, such as six months, pending their return to duty?

Mr. FORSTER

This question has been fully considered, and the present practice is in accordance with the recommendations of the Committee presided over by my right hon. Friend the Minister of Munitions, Command Paper 8642. It is not proposed to make any alteration.
