§ Mr. JACOBSENasked the Under-Secretary of State for War if he is aware that many holders of allotments are volunteers and are being compelled to attend volunteer drills on Saturdays and Sundays, the only days available for work on their allotments; and whether he will confer with the Board of Agriculture with a view to issuing immediate instructions that volunteer drills be not allowed to interfere with such work as must be done on the land during the next few weeks?
§ Mr. MACPHERSONThere is no compulsion upon volunteers to attend drills on Saturdays and Sundays. They must perform a certain number of drills under certain conditions, but this should not appreciably interfere with their week-ends. I would remind my hon. Friend that there ought to be time for both forms of activity.
