HC Deb 21 March 1917 vol 91 cc1942-3W
Mr. FARRELL

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland why the application of Patrick Egan, Derrincliff, Newtowncashel, for reinstatement on a holding from which he was evicted or the provision of an equivalent holding was not entertained; whether he is aware that this is a most industrious man striving to eke out an existence on 4 acres of bog; and if he can hold out any hope of providing for him?

Mr. DUKE

The Estates Commissioners received an application from Patrick Egan for reinstatement in a holding on the Smyth estate, formerly occupied by his father-in-law, but as the eviction did not take place within twenty-five years (before the passing of the Irish Land Act, 1903, Egan does not come within the class of evicted tenants for whom there is power to provide holdings under the Land Purchase Acts.
