HC Deb 21 March 1917 vol 91 cc1917-8W
Mr. KENNEDY

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether his attention has been called to an advertisement of Kearley and Tonge quoting Canadian leanest sides at 152s.; whether this firm sells any Irish bacon; is he aware that the Canadian article, though inferior to Irish bacon, is quoted 12s. dearer than the highest price which can be demanded for Irish bacon, namely, 140s.; and whether he proposes to take any action in the matter?

Captain BATHURST

The quotation of this firm for Canadian smoked bacon appears to be as stated. The firm sell Irish bacon of all descriptions, and their current price for smoked Irish bacon is not as stated in the question, but is 159s. per cwt. The price referred to in the third part of the question is the importers' price ex factory for green Irish bacon.
