HC Deb 20 March 1917 vol 91 c1745W
Mr. R. GWYNNE

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether there are still a number of men of military age working in the Young Men's Christian Association huts; and, if so, whether arrangements will be made for their places to be taken by older men or honorary workers, so that these men could be released to join the Colours?

Mr. MACPHERSON

The policy suggested has been carried out as far as possible for some time past, and there are relatively few men of military age available for service in the employ of the Young Men's Christian Association. For the information of my hon. Friend I may add that I am informed that at home the? Young Men's Christian Association employ 2,785 men and 18,246 women. Of these less than 120 still remain who are liable to military service and classified in Category A or B (1), and the numbers are being gradually reduced.
