HC Deb 20 March 1917 vol 91 cc1748-9W
Mr. BYRNE

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland if his attention has been drawn to the Report of the Public Health Committee of the Dublin Corporation; if he is aware that the result of investigation into the gross weekly incomes of 436 families in various parts of the city showed that 51 families were in receipt of less than 10s. weekly, 72 families of between 10s. and 15s., 68 families of between 15s. and 20s., 92 families of between 20s. and 25s., 68 families of between 25s. and 30s., and 69 families of over 30s.; that the average income per family was £1 1s. 7½d.; that, even if inaccuracies are allowed for to the extent of 50 per cent. in these figures, the general result of the investigation is to show that, if the same ratio prevailed throughout all the tenement houses of the city, over 8,000 families have gross weekly incomes of less than 25s.; and what proposals the Government intend to take to remedy this condition of existence in Dublin?
