asked the President of the Board of Education whether he can state approximately the number of boys and girls in England and Wales between the ages of twelve and sixteen, and of these how many receive further education after the age of thirteen; whether in full-time higher elementary, junior technical, or ordinary secondary schools; in part-time continuation schools, university extension, science or technological evening classes; as day students in universities or technical institutes; or in any other State-aided educational institution?

The estimated numbers of boys and girls between the ages of twelve and sixteen in England and Wales in 1914 were 1,381,743 boys and 1,388,917 girls. The number of boys and girls between thirteen and sixteen years of age who in 1912–13 (the latest year for which figures are available) were receiv- ing full-time or part-time instruction in State-aided educational institutions were-467,932 boys and 393,008 girls.
