§ Mr. ANDERSONasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether, since the institution of voluntary rationing, there have been increases in the issues of wheat and flour as compared with the previous issue; whether be can state how the increase compares with the diminution during the same period in the consumption of meat; and whether it is regarded as more important at present to diminish the consumption of wheat or of meat?
Captain BATHURSTI have no information to indicate that there has been, so far, an increase in the actual consumption of wheat and flour since the introduction of voluntary rationing. As a larger proportion of wheat than of meat is imported from abroad, a decrease in the consumption of bread-stuffs is more important than is that of meat.
