§ Mr. ARCHDALEasked if General Northey's column, operating in German East Africa, is under the orders of the commander-in-chief there; and, if not, whether any dispatch from him can be published, as no mention has been made of his column for the last year?
§ Mr. MACPHERSONThe answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative so far as the conduct of military operations is concerned. I think that my hon. Friend is under some misapprehension in regard to the last part of the question. He will find a special mention of General Northey's force in General Smuts' second dispatch, which was published as a supplement to the "Gazette" of 1st January, 1917. There have also been numerous references in official communiques.
