Mr. E. HARVEYasked the Undersecretary of State for War whether he is aware that an application was made on 25th June, 1916, by Lance-Corporal E. H. Haywood, No. 202655, C Company, 4th Reserve Royal Sussex Battalion, Tunbridge Wells, to his commanding officer for leave to appeal to the prescribed general officer, and he was refused leave; whether such refusal is in accordance with the provisions of the Army Act and the King's Regulations; and, if not, will steps be taken promptly to deal with the matter?
§ Mr. MACPHERSONInquiries are being made, and I will inform my hon. Friend of the result as soon as I am in a position to do so. I understand that instructions have been issued that Lance-Corporal Haywood shall not be sent overseas at present.
