HC Deb 21 June 1917 vol 94 c1986W
Sir T. ESMONDE

asked the Undersecretary of State for War why majors in the Indian Army have not been given concessions corresponding to those granted in the matter of promotion to officers of other ranks in recent years; and whether pay for temporary rank in India is given to all officers or only to Staff officers?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

The promotion of majors in the Indian Army to the rank of liuetenant-colonel has not been specialy accelerated because no occasion has been given for such a measure by any general acceleration of promotion of majors of the Britsh Army. Pay of temporary rank is admissible to regimental officers as well as to Staff officers.
