§ Sir J. SPEARasked what steps an officer in the Territorials who wishes to be transferred to the Regular Army for permanent service must take in order to get transferred; and will he lose his rank in so doing?
§ Mr. MACPHERSONHe must be recommended by the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of an Expeditionary Force, to whom the recommendation from his own commanding officer would go through the usual channels. Usually it is possible to transfer him in his own rank, but in considering this point the age and services of the Regular officers over whose heads he would come into the regiment have to be borne in mind, and in some cases transfer in a lower rank only is justified.
