HC Deb 15 February 1917 vol 90 c822W
Colonel WEIGALL

asked how many officers are now employed as district purchasing officers of supplies; what is approximately the cost of their services; and whether there is any reason why the whole of their duties could not now be adequately performed under the direction of the county war agricultural committees?

Mr. FORSTER

The number of district purchasing officers in the United Kingdom is 51; I am afraid that I have no figures available as to the cost of their services apart from those of the officers and staffs of the Forage Department. I fear that their duties could not be performed by the war agricultural committees.
