HC Deb 26 April 1917 vol 92 cc2615-6W
Mr. HUME-WILLIAMS

asked the hon. Member for Sheffield (Central Divi- sion) whether any neutral country other than Switzerland is prepared to take prisoners of war for internment; and what negotiations are in progress to procure the sending of English prisoners to such country accordingly?

Mr. HOPE

We have reason to believe that more than one neutral country is prepared to receive a certain number of interned prisoners; but it would be inadvisable to make any definite suggestion to them until we know how far the German Government will assent to the proposals which, as I stated on Tuesday, we have lately made to them on this subject.
