§ Mr. CLANCYasked the hon. Member for Worcestershire (Bewdley Division) whether the attention of the Road Board has been or will be drawn to the necessity of that body making a grant towards the repair of the main road leading from the Curragh Camp to Dublin; whether he is aware that the road in question has been seriously damaged by heavy military traffic; whether its condition is such that the military authorities have required it to be steam-rolled; whether, as regards the portion of the road running through the county of Dublin, the local road authority have applied for a grant from the Road Board for the re-surfacing of that portion, and that, although it offered to contribute a share of the cost, the application has been refused; and, if so, whether the Road Board will now reconsider its decision?
§ Mr. BALDWINThe Road Board received an application, dated 4th July, 1916, from the Dublin County Council for a grant of £1,152 towards the total cost, estimated at £2,202, of re-surfacing a section of road between Dublin and Curragh Camp. Damage by heavy military traffic was not assigned as one of the grounds of2422W the application, and no requisition in respect of the road has been received by the Road Board from the military authorities. The county council were informed that the Board did not expect to be in a-position to accede to the application during the financial year 1916-17. The application has not been renewed, but, if renewed, it will be duly considered in consultation with the military authorities.
