HC Deb 25 April 1917 vol 92 c2424W
Mr. GINNELL

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland if he will state the amount paid within the last twelve months towards the Aran Island fisheries out of the Treasury Grant for promotion of fisheries; the amount which the Congested Districts Board propose to spend on the development of the Aran Island fisheries this season; and the time and manner of its expenditure, seeing that the best fishing season is now current?

Mr. DUKE

The question of assisting the fisheries of the Aran Islands is a matter coming within the province of the Congested Districts Board, who, as stated in answer to the hon. Member on 17th April, have expended £3,818 in connection with four motor boats at Kilronan since July, 1913. I am informed that the Board have recently agreed to make a loan of £400 in respect of the Aran fisheries, but I am not in a position to give any further information as to the expenditure to be incurred in the financial year now beginning.
