HC Deb 19 April 1917 vol 92 c1853W
Mr. BYRNE

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether time-expired soldiers who have completed their extra year and who have mechanical knowledge will be allowed to take their discharge from the Army if they undertake to go to munition work?

Mr. MACPHERSON

Under the Military Service Acts a man is not time-expired until the end of the War except in certain cases in which age and length of service combine to fulfil the conditions laid down in Military Service Act (Session 2), 1916. Men who are surplus to requirements are given the chance of undertaking munitions work. Such men naturally include no A1, B1, or C1 category men, and comparatively few B ii. and C ii.
