HC Deb 02 April 1917 vol 92 c966W
Major NEWMAN

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether he is aware that the post of veterinary sugeon under the Contagious Diseases of Animals Act in Bantry (county Cork) district has been vacant for more than nine months; and is the delay due to the Cork County Council being unable to find a candidate qualified for the post or some other reason?

Mr. DUKE

The appointment referred to, which rests with the county council, subject to the approval of the Department of Agriculture, has been vacant for nearly eight months. Proposals made for amalgamating the district with that of another veterinary inspector did not meet with approval, and the county council do not appear to have reached a final decision as to further proposals; but they have arranged that an inspector will be employed to visit any cases of disease that may be reported in the meantime.
