§ Mr. FARRELLasked the Chief Secretary whether his attention has been called to the case of John Kiernan, of Ballinalee, county Longford, whose pension was refused three years ago on a false statement made by the pension officer that he was not seventy years of age, and, seeing that the Census Returns of 1841. now prove he was then of full age, and as Kiernan has lost three years' pension by this officer's fault, will he now be paid the same sum so lost?
§ Mr. DUKEThe Irish Local Government Board have no information of any such false statement as is alleged. Kiernan had a right of appeal within seven days after the receipt of notice informing him of the decision of the pension sub-committee which he did not exercise. I understand he has now made a fresh claim, but the Board are not aware whether he has been granted a pension.
