§ Mr. STANTONasked the Secretary of State for War if his attention has been called to the case of Private Walter Compton, of the Welsh Regiment, who has been murdered at the prisoners' camp at Gottingen under peculiarly revolting, circumstances; if he is aware that, according to the story of Russian and French fellow prisoners, Compton, when being taken out to work one day, complained of illness and asked to see a doctor; that the sentry refused and tried to force him to work, stabbing him several times with a bayonet; and that an under-officer who was fetched killed Compton by shooting him with his revolver; and what steps the British Government will take to demand satisfaction and full compensation to his widow and child?
