HC Deb 12 October 1916 vol 86 c216W
Sir W. ESSEX

asked the Secretary of State for War how many rates of pay are at present in force in the Army Service Corps; and whether he is preparing or has ready a scheme for unifying these upon one basis?

Mr. FORSTER

There is a great variety of rates of pay now in force in the Army Service Corps owing to the different terms which had to be offered at the beginning of the War to secure the necessary number of men skilled in the different trades. Men are not now being enlisted at these special rates, but it would be a breach of faith to modify the rates of pay of those already enlisted.
