§ Mr. PRATTasked the Secretary for Scotland if he can give a list of the arrangements which have now to his knowledge been made, or are in process? of being made, for the provision of instruction in the Russian language in schools and other educational establishments in Scotland; and whether the Board of Education are taking any steps to encourage the provision of such instruction?
§ Mr. TENNANTClasses in Russian are being held in the Technical Colleges at Aberdeen and Dundee and in the Commercial College at Glasgow, as well as in at least one secondary school, but, owing to the shortness of the notice, I am unable to give full particulars of these classes. In addition, instruction in Russian is provided at nineteen centres under the Continuation Class Code to upwards of 400 pupils. If the work of these classes is satisfactorily reported on by His Majesty's Inspector they will be entitled to receive Grants from the Scottish Education Department at the usual rates.
