Mr. NUGENTasked the Home Secretary whether he is aware that consumers, and more particularly the poorer classes of consumers, in Dublin are being victimised by the local retail traders, who-refuse to supply sugar unless a proportion, arbitrarily fixed by the trader, of tea is also purchased; whether there is any authority in Ireland to deal with this abuse; and, if not, if he will state the English Department that will receive and investigate complaints in the matter?
§ Mr. McKENNAMy right hon. Friend has asked me to reply to this question. I am not aware of the abuses referred to and I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given by me on the 31st October last to the hon. Member for Dartford, of which I am sending him a copy. Full particulars of such cases should be reported to the Secretary of the Sugar Commission direct, when they will receive immediate attention.
