HC Deb 21 November 1916 vol 87 c1246W
Mr. NUGENT

asked the Home Secretary whether he is aware that consumers, and more particularly the poorer classes of consumers, in Dublin are being victimised by the local retail traders, who-refuse to supply sugar unless a proportion, arbitrarily fixed by the trader, of tea is also purchased; whether there is any authority in Ireland to deal with this abuse; and, if not, if he will state the English Department that will receive and investigate complaints in the matter?

Mr. McKENNA

My right hon. Friend has asked me to reply to this question. I am not aware of the abuses referred to and I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given by me on the 31st October last to the hon. Member for Dartford, of which I am sending him a copy. Full particulars of such cases should be reported to the Secretary of the Sugar Commission direct, when they will receive immediate attention.
