§ Mr. W. THORNEasked the President of the Board of Trade whether a certain number of Italian ships and a certain number of French ships have been fitted with refrigerating machinery since the declaration of war, and are engaged in carrying meat; if so, what is the extent of the tonnage; and are these figures included in those given in the Food Prices Report as representing the available meat tonnage of the Australasian and River Plate services?
Mr. RUNCIMANThe answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. I cannot give the exact tonnage, and I do not think it is included in the figures given by the Prices Committee.
